Bunk Beds

The bunk bed you ordered has been scheduled for delivery and is on its way. Before it arrives, it’s time to set up the room so you can be ready to start assembling your kid’s bunk bed. Below are some suggested recommendations and preparations you can do to make the set up/ assembling process as fast and as easy as possible.

The first thing you need to do before placing the twin over twin or twin over full bunk bed boxes in the room is clearing the area of the room where the bunk bed will go. Ideally, the bunk bed should be placed against a wall, preferably a corner for wall support. Remember to make additional room if your bunk bed has under bed drawers or a trundle so that they can open and close without any obstructions such as an open door. To make the bunk bed arrangement safer, it’s always a good idea to place the child’s bunk bed away from windows and a safe distance away from a ceiling fans if you have one. Once you know where the bed will go, it’s time to put the boxes in the room.

When placing the bunk bed boxes in the room, it’s a good idea to open the boxes and check that all the parts needed are within the boxes. Once you do that, spread out the parts so that you can easily find the parts you need while following the assembly directions. It’s now time to start assembling the bunk bed.

Once the bunk bed is fully assembled, it’s time to check all the nuts and bolts. You want to make sure all the bolts are nice and tight and that the bunk bed feels secure. Parts such as the ladder or upper safety rails should always be securely tightened and should not feel wobbly. Now that the bunk is sturdy and secure, it’s time to place the mattresses on the bunk.

The mattress you choose for your brand new bunk bed is very important. You should only use mattresses that are recommended by the manufacturer. These mattresses are usually 74" - 75" long and 37-1/2" - 38-1/2" wide on upper bunk and should not exceed a thickness of 6 inches. Though this rule doesn’t apply to all bunk beds, the rule of thumb is that the top mattress can be any thickness as long as the safety rail can still effectively prevent accidental injury. If you are unsure about your existing mattresses, refer to the manufacturer recommendations or feel free to give us a call.

Once you have your children’s bunk bed in an ideal spot, have checked all the nuts, bolts and mattresses, your bunk bed is officially ready for use.
